Breath as Medicine and HeartMath are powerful toolkits for stress management, emotional regulation, resilience, and improved health and wellbeing. They each utilize simple skills and techniques that with practice, can become natural tools you incorporate throughout your day and during challenging situations. Both can:

  • balance and regulate the autonomic nervous system
  • increase heart rate variability
  • lower blood pressure
  • improve cognitive function
  • improve sleep
  • reduce stress and anxiety

 

Breath as Medicine “focuses on breath regulation concepts & strategies by applying the principles and philosophy of yoga breathing (or pranayama) to improve breathing rates and patterns; thereby, improving brain health, heart health, respiratory health, nervous system imbalances, endocrine health, circadian & ultradian rhythms as well as cognitive function and emotional intelligence” (Ed Harrold).

HeartMath involves simple techniques combined with (optional) biofeedback technology. It combines heart focus with breathing techniques and a change in emotional state to synchronize the activity between your heart, nervous system and brain, allowing you to change your body’s physiological response to stress and anxiety. Current clients:
The basics of these techniques, along with mindfulness and positive psychology, are woven into my coaching practice. During the course of your coaching package, you may choose to open each coaching session with a coach-led stress management exercise, or to acquire these skills on an as-needed basis.
